Ten Pounds of Brussel Sprouts? What Would You Do? Plus: Events Are Reaching Their Logical Conclusions (One), and More

The other day my husband came home from food shopping with about a ten pound bag of fresh brussel sprouts for $0.59. First of all, we tend to buy bagged-up fresh produce that may not exactly be "fresh," that is put into a shopping cart and severely marked down for quick sale. Bananas are a favorite--ten pounds of brownish marked bananas in paper bags for $3 is not uncommon. Now, we won't spend one thin dime on cucumbers that are starting to mold, but spending fifty-nine cents for ten freaking pounds of mildly yellowing-on-the-outside brussle sprouts that sat on the shelf too long is definitely worth it. Except if you don't like brussel sprouts, which, when you cook them after they've been in the freezer have a pungeant odor and taste, besides being slimy and being a vegetable you hated as a kid. (Kids supposedly hate broccoli. I loved broccoli then and I love broccoli now. In fact I never even had brussel sprouts until five years ago. They were bought frozen, and I ate them but didn't really like them out of the freezer.) In fact I don't even often see fresh brussel sprouts in the produce section. I suspect that most people don't know just how good cooked fresh brussel sprouts are. But when I cooked up a pot full of fresh brussel sprouts, I was amazed at how good they are!

But ten pounds? However, in processing sprouts that are being sold for $0.59 for ten pounds you can be sure that a lot of processing must be done, because at that price the outer leaves are yellow and some have black spots on them. So you basically get rid of a couple of pounds of outer leaf material which leaves maybe seven pounds of edible brussel sprouts, by cutting off the end and taking the spotty, yellow outer materials with it, leaving fresher looking sprouts to cook. It's kinda nice brussel sprouts are cabbage-like; easy to peel away the "bad" parts, then put the bad on the ground for the deer. Still, that's a lot of brussel sprout servings (and what if your family members don't like brussel sprouts?) And brussel sprouts aren't something you want to serve at, say, a Super Bowl party (which, at this point, I'll congratulate the New Orleans Saints, who have been a doormat for nearly all of 44 years, and are the team of choice for my husband's New Orleans metro area relatives. Please beat the Colts!). But if your church has "fellowship" Sunday meals, or your community has "meals-on-wheels" type services for elderly and sick folks who need cooked meals...Or, if you want to cook the batch and freeze-blanch-method whatever is left over, hoping you don't ruin the taste by freezing them...

In fact the only thing that would be better for my husband to bring home ten pounds of for $0.59, would be fresh asparagus. No vegetable taste better freshly cooked considering just how badly it tastes out of a can! Can anyone think of a worse tasting veggie out of a can than asparagus? (Okay, peas maybe.) I mean, why do they even bother canning asparagus knowing how putridly slimy it will turn out? Compared to correctly cooked fresh asparagus, which is awesome?

Now if you have read this far without thinking just why I would even bother bringing up such a trite topic, I now get to the point. Expect the prices of fresh foods to skyrocket at some point. What this could mean is that almost any sort of fresh produce, being more and more dearly priced, could wind up "rotting" on the shelf, whereby produce managers are going to have to take a dive in profit margin and sell the produce at a fraction of the price just to get rid of the stuff. Realize that it is cheaper to sell off at a fraction of the original selling price than it would be to throw it out. Why pay for a dumpster for food that one would normally use for box trash that will only attract raccoons, or, if in Califormia, the homeless? Can't have them hanging around the store!

Imagine! Ten pounds of carrots for a dollar, or five cucumbers for a dollar (but beware: rotting cucumbers can make you sick), or five pounds of celery for $0.69. Put that together with a ten pound bag of potatoes for a buck and some left over crock pot chicken, and you can make yourself a nice batch of chicken soup! (Without cucumbers, of course). We have crock pot chicken about once every two weeks, mostly because chicken is still fairly cheap and because every time one of us goes to El Paso we stop at Sams Club, which sells two-pack bags of whole chickens for about forty to fifty cents a pound. Now that Sams has laid off all those ladies who demonstrate the wonders of crackers and dip or the latest in fake crab paste--these ladies and food samples were the only reason I can think of for liking shopping at Sams in the first place--maybe they can keep their chicken prices about even.

Events Are Reaching Their Logical Conclusion, and More

What a couple of weeks this has been for We the People and the criminals and psychopaths who pretend to rule us! I must say that I didn't exactly cry "yippie" when that Republican guy, Scott Brown I think is his name, won the old Teddy Kennedy seat, because that simply isn't my style, getting all worked up over a male Sarah Palin type who says all the right things knowing the angry mood of "the little people" will get him voted in. Why does the song "Won't Get Fooled Again" keep reverberating in my mind? I mean, I'm supposed to get all excited over someone whom Sean Hannity is rooting for? And, to top it all off, this warmongering neo-con doofus, the very next day, comes out and SUPPORTS HEALTH CARE REFORM? I think this turkey just set the record for flip-flop times! And all the BS about reconfirming Helicopter Ben, as if there actually is a "debate" about reconfirming him, as if they are actually thinking about it. What a circus! Go through the motions and confirm the criminal already, you know you want to! And then there is Obama's BS about creating jobs. Boy oh boy! If he can spend over $240,000 creating one job, do you think he can cut his budget to just $200,000 for one job? Yes he can!

Oh, heck, if I'm gonna be cynical I might as well enjoy a few laughs! However, I will bring up a few interesting articles and videos I recommend viewing, whereby you, the viewer, can make up your own mind as to what's happening and where we're going. I mean I could rant, but folks, you really need to start reaching your own conclusions and making you own preparations. But I will say, again, the elites blew it when they got off the gradualism bandwagon and started on a road in which even the most asleep, in-deep-denial American will eventually be able to figure out what the elites are up to. Turnip bleeding. Events are reaching their logical conclusion.

But first, a few words about that Supreme Court decision to allow multi-million dollar...okay, okay, multi-billion dollar...corporations to basically buy elections, as if they haven't already been doing that. Plenty of bloggers are hopping mad over this, including Veterans Today blogger Gordon Duff, who wants Scalia and friends tried for treason. Duff, who is better at being angry than he is at checking his facts, claims that now China will control the legislative branch. It is clear he doesn't read World Reports 'cos if he did he'd already know that China and others have put a 47 trillion dollar lien on the Treasury/Federal Reserve. If the rule of law actually operated in the US, China would actually have every right to do so. Still, and despite Obama's claim this is so from his SOTU Address Wednesday night, the Supremes DID NOT allow foreign corporations to contribute to campaign ads. And not only that, but corproate monies cannot go directly to those running for office--it must go for campaign ads only. (Question: Does this also apply to Israel?) Further, it is also clear Duff's never read the Constitution, particularly the 14th Amendment (besides the possible fact that this was never properly ratified, as with the onerous 16th Amendment...hopefully the readers knows what's in the amendment!), which sets out to enumerate two types of citizens: sovereign "Big C" Citizens (that is, citizens of sovereign states as well as the united States) and "corporate" UNITED STATES CITIZENS; this stemmed from the conundrum of what to do with the newly freed slaves, who had not been citizens prior to their emancipation (and due to the fact that in the Constitution, the writer of the law can set out what the law applies to, meaning just because they were freed after the Civil War it didn't mean blacks were now "soveriegn citizens," further, would the south treat them that way? Hardly!) And notice the all caps on UNITED STATES CITIZENS. Ever notice your name in ALL CAPS on your Social? Well, folks--and I learned this when I was educating myself in the 90s by reading "Patriot-militia" papers and the actual Constitution--that is because, thanks to the gradual devolution of the Federal government into complete control over the State governments especially through Federal funding (how long will that last?), and also through Civil Rights legislation, we are now ALL UNITED STATES CITIZENS whether we want to be or not. BTW, Mr. Duff, so are all corporations! And, as for other bloggers who now think folks ought to label, say, the Senator from Indiana who won because Monsanto spent billions on his campaign ads "the Senator from Monsanto" (who beat, say, the "ex-Senator from Dow Chemical"), I guess they weren't around in the late 60s when Washington's "Scoop" Jackson was "the Senator from Boeing." Finally, look at the bright side. Staunch Ron Paul supporter Judge Napolitano explains that while it might seem as though corporations, who already have a strong toe-hold on office holders, can "buy" elections, in fact this ruling just might be favorable for those running independent and third party campaigns. There are corporations and rich folks out there, believe it or not, who actually do want to set this country to right and bring back the Constitution, not the rule of criminals, as the Supreme Law of the Land, and I imagine there are a few of them who just might "spring board" a true patriot into public lime light (and I'm not talking about that phony, Sarah Palin, either!)

Besides, I'm thinking no corporation could pay me enough to run for Congress or the Senate, anyway. According to this very well written and documented article from Kitco, "..."One stark and sobering way to frame the crisis is this: if the United States government were to nationalize (in other words, steal) every penny of private wealth accumulated by America’s citizens since the nation’s founding 235 years ago, the government would remain totally bankrupt." Further, "..."Nationalized health care has absolutely nothing to do with health care; it has to do with creating an immediate revenue stream to help fix the current government funding crisis. Similarly, Cap and Trade has nothing to do with fixing the environment. It, too, is nothing more than a massive tax increase similarly designed to address the government’s epic funding shortfall, with thick slices of pork thrown in for privileged insiders and deceitful propagandists like bloated 'Father of the Internet' and now 'Savior of the World' Al Gore." Reading with a critical eye, I couldn't help but feel that if folks actually did believe even one-fourth of this and took it to heart, us "cowardly" Americans might actually do something about it. That might amuse a few supposedly foreign bloggers who really believe Americans crave bloodlust (but, because they are ignorant, actually believe we only crave Muslim blood. Just ask any Native American how stupid that is!).

Now for some videos. In this one, Scott Brown does admit he really is for Health Care Reform after campaigning against it.

Alex Jones: Glenn Beck accuses "9-11 Truth" of trying to kill Obama! Jones, of course, is promoting himself as usual, but there it is in black and white: Glenn Beck accusing "9-11 Truth" of wanting to kill Obama. What with his taking over the "tea party" movement calling it "9-12" and his calling for taxes to bailout the banks, has Beck made himself any more irrelevant while he is taking over control of the opposition? The fusion of entertainment and "enlightenment" (as in "illuminati" and "lucifer"?), indeed! Or is Jones just pissed because only HE can control the opposition?

In this video, Americans show support for repealing the First Amendment. But he didn't forget to include those folks at the end, who refused to sign the petition to repeal it. He never did say how many names he got...I suspect he didn't get very many.

And, since this is Holocaust Remembrance Week, let's not forget a mini-holocaust done to our very own by our own very "reliable ally" (which we rely on to screw us every time!), because someone has to do it! And, if you don't do videos, here is a written eyewitness account of what happened to the USS Liberty.

Don't forget, if you have a comment on this or other posts, e-mail me with your comment, and put the name of the article in the subject line. Or, you can post it here.
