This and That: When you move, buy new stuff locally |
Let's suppose you are moving from the city or suburbs into a rural area outside of one or more small country towns. Let's suppose too that one of these small towns has an appliance store or two, at least one of them locally owned and operated (in other words, I'm not talking Wal-Mart, Sears, or any other large chain outfit). Let's call this "Joe's Appliances" (of course you know I am just making up this name!). Now, "Joe's Appliances" will likely sell things like washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, stoves, stovetops, TVs, air conditioners/swamp coolers, DVD players and the like. Or perhaps the local "rural electric co-op" or "local electric utility" sells appliances. Either way, buy from a local dealer who is not affiliated with some large chain. Why? With a large chain you'll save money, right? |
From my own experience this is an example of "penny wise and pound foolish." The reason is simple. You WILL spend more money buying a washing machine or a refrigerator from a local dealer or your utility than you would from Sears or Wal-Mart or anyone else like that. But...from our own experience...you save money in the long run IF your machine breaks down at some point and you plan on keeping the appliance but getting it fixed. Believe me when I say that if you buy from a large chain (which will remain nameless) YOU WILL PAY THROUGH THE NOSE FOR REPAIRS! Your local big chain will NOT send someone out from the local chain affiliate. Someone will come, however, from a few hundred miles away (that is, from the big city affiliate), charge you huge amounts of money in "per mile driving distance" charges and will probably TAKE THE APPLIANCE WITH THEM BACK TO THE STORE to have it fixed, which means you will have to pay for the delivery back to you as well. This is because when you live way out in the country ONLY LOCAL DEALER repair persons will take the time and effort to fix your appliance at your house (and even then often they will take the machine back with them, but only if it is under warranty). In fact, you might even find someone to fix your appliance as a freelancer (heck, there are probably more fix-it freelancers in the country than in the city, anyway). What saves you money in the long run is the fact that repair driving distances are much, much shorter so likelihood is the machine "pays for itself" faster if you buy locally. |
Also implied in this is that if you are moving, DO NOT bring your big appliances with you. Sell them at a garage sale before you move, then buy new ones locally. Of course, for smaller items like TVs, DVD players and the like, bring those with you. |

A word to alternative news-opinion sites: stop the fearmongering and stop emphasizing what divides us! |
I visit a lot of alternative news and opinion sites...some of them are listed to the left under "blog roll." I am probably going to drop a number of these sites and add perhaps some others that are less likely to spout disinformation. It bothers me that much that some of these sites really do spread falsehoods. Some of them spout hatred of those who do not tow the "9-11 truth" line, or if not hatred than denunciation, as if the 9-11 truth movement is the only viable truth movement out there. So these types of sites will be dropped. Plus, most of them are fearmongers-for-profit. I will still visit these sites from time to time but I will not promote them any more. Other sites I am removing are maybe not "9-11 truth" sites but blame everything on Bush and his administration (you got it...they are left wing!), or blame everything on Israel (the anti-Zionists have some excellent points, and, in fact, they are correct to say that the Zionists see us "goyim" as "cattle"...more about that coming on my Christ blog Truth Not Heresy), or blame everything on "the Illuminati." A lot of the fascism going on here in the USA has been around long before Dubya Bush and Tricky Dick Cheney came on the scene...those of you who followed the 90s "patriot movement" know Clinton has a lot to do with the police state tactics we are seeing now. Clinton probably deregulated as much or more than Reagan, so Slick Willie is just as responsible for corporations "running the government" as Reagan or Bush are. (Another reason NOT to vote for Hillary!) As for Israel, it is absolutely true that country does influence American foreign policy way out of proportion to its usefulness as an ally, and when Pat Buchanan calls Congress "Israeli Occupied Territory" he is being truthful, and when AIPAC uses the tactics it does to stop criticism of the Zionist lobby, that group should be told to shove it up its rear end...and in the future (when I can find it on my computer) I will offer up some very interesting quotes from Israeli leaders about just what they think of the US government and Americans in general (believe me, it is NOT nice stuff!). Further, I am incensed that Israel just happens to be THE ONLY MIDDLE EASTERN COUNTRY THAT HAS EVER ATTACKED US! ("Remember the Liberty!"), so why in the blue blazes are we kissing their butts all the time for?? But some sites go way overboard and issue blanket attacks on not only all Jews (save those that publicly denounce Zionism), but all Gentiles who don't sufficiently denounce Zionism as well! And what would it take to "sufficiently denounce Zionism" as far as some of these sites are concerned? To say that one hopes Israel really is "wiped off the map"! And that, folks, is not something I am willing to say (in fact I believe Israel has a right to exist...I just wish the Zionist racists running Israel could live peaceably with their Palestinian neighbors. Jesus Christ certainly could! What's Likud's excuse?) As for "the Illuminati," this appellation is also shopworn and just who the heck is in it, anyway? Do you mean Rothschilds and Rockefellers? Do you mean Kissinger and Eliot Abrams? Do you mean Bushes and Clintons? Do you mean the heirs of the Bourbons, Hapsburghs, Hohenzollerns, Windsors, or the so-called "Black Venetians" or whatever European monarchies, or the heirs to the "Knights Templar" or anyone having anything to do with Dan Brown's idiot "Da Vinci Code"? Or the folks who murdered Pope John Paul I (P2 Masonic Lodge, Opus Dei, OTO and their ilk)? Or do you mean John Coleman's "Committee of 300" or "the Bilderbergers" or "The CFR-RIAA-Trilateral Commission-Club of Rome-Skull and Bones-Axis"? Or is it all Freemasons (I know a few...all this Freemason conspiracy stuff is way out of line! Your average "33rd-degree" Freemason is NOT truly a Freemason because they are initiated as 33rd-degree Masons, not the way Freemasons are initiated!). In fact, I denounce all secret societies! Secret Societies are mostly trying to keep some truth from the rest of us, and they tend to serve at least two masters. But the fact is these groups are no longer secret. Someone always manages to infiltrate Bohemian Grove meetings or Bilderberger meetings. Because of the Internet we can know exactly who belongs to these groups...that's how I found out Angelina Jolie is now in the CFR! From my experience, "the enemy" (which we MUST NOT HATE!) is that group of people who wish to totally subjugate us (a group I call the oligarchs) |

There is so much disinformation on mainstream media (in fact most MSM is propaganda!) as well as alternative sites (most of the stuff posted on these sites is not completely true either, and much is opinion disguised as fact). Still, most people don't notice the difference. I suspect this might have a lot to do with public education; for one thing (and I know this is true because when I taught in public schools) I have listened to English teachers' complaints about students' inability to distinguish fact from opinion on standardized tests. For another thing, having been a math teacher in high school, students often refused to believe that the iron laws of mathematics (for instance, "for every non-zero integer, if a=b and b=c, then a=c) and wanted to substitute their own logic...on the other hand, today's new fuzzy math actually allows students to do so! In high schools today, all answers are correct! Is it any wonder that so many students that enter college must take remedial courses in math as well as English? |
Further, today public schooled students can design their own "national flags" as if they were going to found their own country, design their own "gods" (anyone who really believes that public schools follow separation of church and state is naive...this rule is seemingly only applied to Christianity! You can learn about the Koran, but heaven help you if you bring a Bible to school! One day I will tell readers the interesting story about how a substitute teacher was fired because he dared to mention God in school!). They can write using their own spellings, they can speak Spanish in English classes (or Vietnamese or French or whatever), they can write their own versions of history, can learn in science classes what has never been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt (macro-evolution, that is...I am not saying to teach Creationism; Creationism is not science! It is not even science when they call it "Intelligent Design"! The thing is, macro-evolution is not science either! Neither one should be taught in science classes!), and can pretend that their "reality" really is reality. So, to sum up, today's public schools teach that everything is relative and reality is what you make it. I guess THEY who control US public education want to produce more "we're an empire now and so we can make our own reality" neocons! |
