Obama or McCain...But Will It Make A Difference? |
We will have elected a new president in the next few days...or not...or a new president will have "stolen" the election...or Bush will declare the elections kaput and institute martial law. Or, for those who can't or won't spell correctly, "marshall law." Or something! So we will have either Obama or McCain. That's just tough on us American people, because most voters believe the nonsense that voting third party is "wasting" one's vote. (And, seeing as how Diebold machines and the like are "flipping" Obama votes for McCain, third party votes probably WOULD be wasted! But I'm gonna vote third party anyway, if I vote for President at all. Anyone who really thinks I'm voting for Obama after what I said in my previous newsletter didn't read the "fine print" which said I would only do that if someone put a gun to my head, and that ain't gonna happen because they will have plenty of folks, whom I know, for security at the voting place--a local Baptist church out here in the mountains.) But if you subscribe or read these newsletters regularly you already know this. My question to you is this: will the outcome matter? Will the outcome matter to you? |

Over the last couple of weeks I have settled my "soul", if you will, on the imagined possibility that something very bad will happen to me, or to my kids, or to any other loved one, regardless of who wins. I had thought: "if McCain wins, he will reinstitute the military draft for either another "surge" or some other war he will start, and my son will be drafted, sent to this war and be killed there." My "soul" has been "settled" in this matter and if that does happen I will not suddenly have all this hatred in my heart, either for the one who shoots him or the rotten government that sends him...thus I will be able to deal with it. The Holy Spirit, you see. (Now, if I was an atheist, I would not be able to deal with this tragedy of my only son dying for the oligarchs. My only solace would be hatred of THEM. Don't get mad, get even? Right! I wouldn't get two inches inside the White House gates!) Obama, too, could reinstitute the military draft...who knows what Obama will do? Either one, however, I am pretty sure, will institute some form of mandatory national service for young people, or even middle aged or older people, a la CCC or other "New Deal" type programs; after all, since the taxpayers are bailing out Wall Street and the banksters, what money is left to fix the interstates? Maybe Obama will say something like all those folks with housing or other debt will have to work off their debt by busting their backs fixing potholes or growing corn for ethanol. Who knows what Obama will do? McCain, of course, will continue the policies of Bush. Until he gets too sick, then Palin takes over. God help us! So that whether it is giving in to the inevitable or just letting the positive spirit take over I have reached the calming blessed assurance that it doesn't matter anymore who wins. I must confess that whatever fascist and unconstitutional things Bush did really didn't affect my life much, and whatever Obama or McCain does probably won't affect it much either. We are far enough removed from it. I hope all readers here can say the same thing. Right now the biggest problem with rural remote living is the driving distances for anything, plus the higher gas prices, and the fact that some things may not be available at the local mountain country store. That seems a small price to pay for being pretty much insulated from the worst of BushFedGov. |

I won't say this will be my last "political pontification" on this site, but after this coming Tuesday I hope I can put it to rest for a while and concentrate on telling you about my continuing war on grasshoppers, medical remedies I am using with the usual warning about I am not giving medical advice, preparedness, cool websites, and further adventures in rural remote living. |

Well, I don't have much more to say and this will be a much shorter newsletter than usual. But if you live in the country, think about how much the outcome of this "election" will affect you, and, if the answer is not much, count yourself blessed and pass the garden-fresh squash, the bottle of organic wine, the platter of turkey you hunted and killed the other day, or of range-fed steer from your rancher neighbor, or the basket of freshly batter-dipped fried catfish from the lake or your self-built fish pond...or what it is you grew or raised. And if you live in the city or suburbs, if the outcome doesn't matter much to you and are prepared for socio-fascism lite or dark (I'll leave it up to you as to who is fasicsm lite or fascism dark, and nothing racial is meant here), then pass whatever it is you like and enjoy. |
